How to remove tar and iron from a car?

We often get asked by customers what these black and orange spots on the car's body are and how to remove them. These spots are particularly noticeable on light-colored cars, and on dark cars, the surface feels rough. These spots are small particles containing tar and iron fallout. Tar comes from both car tires and asphalt, while iron fallout originates from the car's own brakes and, for example, studded tires. When braking, particles become airborne, and the iron released from them adheres to the paint surface. The iron particles react with water and air, forming a rusty layer over the iron particle, which is why the spots on the car's body are orange.

Tar and iron removal are very easy procedures that many can do themselves at their own car wash! With an effective iron remover, the job is done quickly and effortlessly. Iron remover helps to clean the car's paint surface effectively and remove iron-containing contaminants, keeping the car's appearance neat and shiny. When used correctly, iron remover does not damage the car's surface but makes it even more appealing.

Iron Removal

For this procedure, you will need Fure Iron Remover and a pressure washer.
Always ensure that the car's surfaces are cool and that the sun is not shining directly on the surfaces to be cleaned.

  1. The process always begins with washing the car, and instructions can be found HERE. After the final rinse, allow excess wash water to drain from the surfaces, as it can dilute the iron remover and reduce its effectiveness.
  2. Spray Fure Iron Remover onto the car's surfaces and let it sit for about 5 minutes. The iron remover will start to react with the iron, turning red as shown in the picture. Make sure the product does not dry on the paint surface.
  3. Once the dwell time is complete, rinse the car thoroughly from bottom to top.

This procedure should remove most of the iron fallout. Sometimes, extremely stubborn iron spots require a new, similar treatment.

Tar Removal

For this procedure, you will need Fure Tar Remover, a microfiber cloth, and a standard garden hose will suffice.

  1. Again, this step begins with washing the car, and allow excess water to drain before starting tar removal.
  2. Spray Fure Tar Remover onto 1-2 panels at a time, for example, and let it sit for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Tar spots will start to react with the product and appear as black running spots.
  3. Spray a couple of shots of tar remover onto a microfiber cloth and wipe the surface clean. Do not let the product dry on the surfaces.
  4. Rinse the surface thoroughly with water.

Tar removal can easily leave a slightly greasy film on the car's paint surface, so after that, it's good to neutralize the car's paint surface by performing a normal wash with Fure Car Shampoo. This will remove all tar residue from the car's paint surface.

With these easy procedures, you will get the paint surface completely clean, and this is an excellent time to protect the surfaces, for example, with wax. The operation above only needs to be done a couple of times a year. A good schedule might be during tire changes.
